IMAGINE GRANTS - DUE DATE EXTENDED
IMAGINE grants will now be due on Friday, January 29th and awards will be announced in mid-February. Many people have had difficulty with the online form submission and we are providing an alternate form in Microsoft Word. If you have any further issues, please contact us for support at (250) 565-7384.
Northern Health’s HEAL, Injury Prevention, HEAL for Your Heart, along with RoadHealth have come together to support community organizations in their work of promoting healthy citizens and healthy communities. The combined investments of community energy and commitment, along with Northern Health’s financial support, can realize lasting improvements to the health and wellbeing of those living, working, learning and playing in Northern BC.
HEAL grants are available to groups and communities within Northern Health looking to take charge of Healthy Eating and Active Living and to encourage sustainable change in their communities. The $2,000 HEAL grants fund prevention-based strategies aimed at reducing risks associated with diabetes, cardiac and vascular diseases, obesity and cancer through programs that encourage healthy foods, gardening, cooking, active living and healthy lifestyles all year round.
Injury Prevention Grants are available to support activities and initiatives that promote safety and the prevention of injuries in Northern Health. Because Head and Spinal Cord injuries and Seniors’ Falls related injuries leave devastating and lasting burdens on individuals, families and communities, the $1,000 Injury Prevention Grants will focus on head and spinal cord injury prevention for children and youth as well as seniors’ falls prevention activities and initiatives.
RoadHealth Grants of up to $5,000 are available to community-based groups for road safety prevention projects that target drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, school children or workers. Projects and initiatives will focus on reducing the North’s high incidence of injury and fatality due to motor vehicle crashes, including ATV and other motorized vehicles. See http://www.roadhealth.org for examples of successful projects from previous years.
Pending funding confirmation, HEAL for Your Heart Grants are aimed at communities within Northern Health to provide education and skill building to prevent cardiac and vascular diseases and/or secondary health problems for people already diagnosed as being at risk for, or experiencing cardiac and vascular conditions.
Northern Health recognizes that we must tackle the burden of diabetes, cardiac and vascular diseases as well as unintentional injuries. Partnering with community groups to promote safety, healthy eating and active living through our IMAGINE Grants, we will help realize fresh approaches to creating healthier northern communities. Together we can make a difference.
