Connecting Community Gardens
HEAL (Healthy Eating Active Living) in Northern BC is currently supporting the development and/or enhancement of community gardens in 12 different communities this summer. The age and experience of the gardeners range from the very young (still in diapers) to master gardeners. The gardens range from newly broken soil to well-established community gardens with greenhouses.
HEAL is interested in mapping the number of community gardens and making the connection between established gardens and emerging gardens throughout northern BC. Gardening in the north can be challenging and there is wisdom, knowledge, lessons learned and best practices that have been gained through experience. It would be helpful to support emerging gardens by connecting them to established gardens. This could be through a collection of stories and pictures to share or possibly arranging community garden tours, to begin with it is just to map the locations of community gardens in the north.
If you are part of a community garden and are interested in Connecting Community Gardens, please send the name of your community, location of the garden and contact information to HEAL@northernhealth.ca or phone 250.612.1362.
